About One Thing Today

A free, open knowledge platform for anyone who wants to learn something practical — one day at a time.

Our mission

Knowledge should be available to everyone. Everywhere. Every day.

One Thing Today was built on a simple belief: the gap between knowing something and not knowing it can change the course of a person’s life. A skill learned today — how to purify water, how to save seeds, how to price your work fairly — might seem small. But for the right person, on the right day, it is everything.

We built this site to be as open and accessible as possible. No registration. No paywall. No algorithm deciding what you should learn. Just one practical skill per day, surfaced for your region, your goals, and your available time.

How it works

Curated by people, reviewed for the real world.

Skills are curated and written by a small team with input from communities in the regions we serve. Each skill is reviewed for accuracy, accessibility, and real-world usefulness before it is published. We prioritise skills that require no special equipment, no internet connection to act on, and no prior education to understand.

Help us grow

This site is better when more people are involved.

We are looking for two kinds of contributors:

Translators — if you are fluent in a language we haven’t reached yet and want to help translate skills into your language, we would love your help.

Skill writers — if you have practical expertise in any of our five categories and want to contribute a skill, we have a simple submission process.
