Care for blisters on long journeys
Why this matters
A small blister can make every step painful and, if it bursts and gets dirty, can become infected far from any clinic. Treating it early keeps you moving comfortably and safely.
What you need
Clean water, a clean cloth, and a plaster or soft padding.
These are everyday items. If you don’t have one, look for the closest alternative — the steps will tell you what to use instead.
How to do it
Follow these steps in order. Take your time. You’ve got this.
Stop as soon as you feel a hot spot, and cover it with padding before a blister forms.
If a blister forms, leave it intact when you can and protect it with a clean plaster.
If it bursts, clean it gently, keep it covered, and watch for signs of infection.
Your one thing today
Check your footwear today for the rubbing points that cause blisters and pad them in advance.
Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Do this one thing now, even if it’s small.
