Why this matters
Most nosebleeds stop quickly with the right technique, but the wrong move — like tilting the head back — can cause choking. Knowing what to do keeps it calm and safe.
What you need
Just a clean tissue or cloth and somewhere to sit.
These are everyday items. If you don’t have one, look for the closest alternative — the steps will tell you what to use instead.
How to do it
Follow these steps in order. Take your time. You’ve got this.
Sit upright and lean slightly forward so blood drains out and not down the throat.
Pinch the soft part of the nose firmly and hold for ten minutes without checking.
If bleeding continues beyond twenty minutes or is heavy, seek medical help.
Your one thing today
Practise the head-forward, pinch-the-nose position now so you do it right under pressure.
Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Do this one thing now, even if it’s small.
