Recognise dangerous chest pain and act
Why this matters
Some chest pain is a heart attack, where every minute counts. Knowing the warning signs lets you call for help fast instead of waiting and hoping it passes.
What you need
Awareness of the signs and the number for local emergency help.
These are everyday items. If you don’t have one, look for the closest alternative — the steps will tell you what to use instead.
How to do it
Follow these steps in order. Take your time. You’ve got this.
Treat pressure or tightness in the centre of the chest lasting more than a few minutes as an emergency.
Watch for pain spreading to the arm, jaw, or back, along with sweating, nausea, or shortness of breath.
Call emergency help immediately, sit the person down, and keep them calm and still.
Your one thing today
Save or write down your local emergency number where everyone at home can find it today.
Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Do this one thing now, even if it’s small.
Come back tomorrow
