Spot the warning signs of an infected wound
Why this matters
An infected wound can spread to the blood and become life-threatening if ignored. Recognising the early signs means you seek care while simple treatment still works.
What you need
Good light and a few minutes to look closely at the wound each day.
These are everyday items. If you don’t have one, look for the closest alternative — the steps will tell you what to use instead.
How to do it
Follow these steps in order. Take your time. You’ve got this.
Look for increasing redness, swelling, warmth, or pain around the wound after the first day or two.
Watch for yellow or green pus, a bad smell, or red streaks spreading out from the wound.
Check for fever or feeling unwell — these signs together mean you should seek medical care quickly.
Your one thing today
Inspect any current wound in good light today and note whether it is improving or getting worse.
Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Do this one thing now, even if it’s small.
